Earlier, the last date to apply for this was March 3, but now the government has extended it by two months. Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) members along with their employers will be able to apply for higher pension till May 3, 2023. . For this, they have to apply on the Integrated Member Portal of the Retirement Fund Organization. Earlier it was believed that March 3, 2023 was the last date to opt for higher pension. The recently activated URL on the Unified Member Portal of EPFO clearly shows that the last date to opt for higher pension is May 3, 2023.

Let us tell you that earlier the Supreme Court had said in its order on November 4, 2022 that EPFO will have to give four months time to all eligible members to opt for higher pension. This four-month period will end on March 3, 2023. This gives the impression that its deadline is March 3, 2023.
Pension was last increased in 2014
Last week, EPFO released the details of its process. It was informed that under the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS), the subscriber and his employer can jointly apply for higher pension. In November 2022, the Supreme Court upheld the Employees’ Pension Scheme, 2014. Earlier, in the EPS revision of August 22, 2014, the pensionable salary limit was increased from Rs.6,500 per month to Rs.15,000 per month. Also, members and their employers were allowed to contribute 8.33 per cent of their actual salary to the EPS. EPFO has issued circular to its field offices in this regard.

EPFO had said that such a facility would be provided so that URL information would be given soon. After this, the Regional PF Commissioner will put proper notice and banner on the notice board, so that its information can be made publicly. Under this each application will be digitally registered and recorded and given a receipt number. The in-charge of the Regional Provident Fund Office will review each joint option case. Thereafter the applicant will be informed about the decision through e-mail/post and subsequently through SMS.
