The new rates are set to be announced by the last week of May or the first week of June. An average increase of 18 to 23 percent has been proposed in the annual revenue requirement filed by all the power companies of the state for the year 2023-24.

The division bench of Electricity Regulatory Commission Chairman RP Singh and member VK Srivastava has accepted the proposal. In the proposal, an increase of about 18 to 23 percent is proposed in the electricity rate of domestic consumers. There is an average increase of 10 to 15 percent in the rates of other electricity consumers. It has also been proposed to increase the electricity rate of industries by 16 percent. The annual revenue requirement of all the power companies is around 92547 crores. The distribution deficit is 14.9 percent. The difference for the year 2023-24 is 9140 crores.
25133 crore is outstanding
Awadhesh Kumar Verma, chairman of the Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Consumers Council and member of the State Advisory Committee, said that the proposal to increase the power tariff will not be allowed to be implemented under any circumstances. This time the consumer will win. He said that the Consumer Council has already informed the commission through its petition that a total of Rs 25,133 crore is being spent extra on the power companies of the state. In such a situation, talking about increase in electricity rate is cheating with the consumers of the state.
